One morning you might be wandering through the Historic Center with a coffee, later you're snorkeling around tropical islands, and by the evening you're sitting outside a small bar listening to live samba or forró. Some of the best beaches require a little adventure

One thing we love about Paraty is that some of its most beautiful beaches aren't the ones you simply drive to. Getting there is part of the experience, and that's exactly what makes them so memorable.

One of the easiest and most popular adventures is Trindade. Just hop on the local bus from Paraty and you'll arrive in a small beach village where an easy walking trail connects three beautiful beaches, Praia do Cepilho, Praia dos Ranchos, and Praia do Meio. It's a relaxed walk with incredible views and plenty of places to stop for a swim.

If you're looking for somewhere a little quieter, Praia do Sono is one of our favorite day trips. The hike is a bit longer but still manageable for most people, winding through the Atlantic Rainforest before opening up to a wide sandy beach that feels wonderfully peaceful. One thing we quickly noticed after moving here is that people don't rush home after work. Friends meet outside, order a few cold beers to share, snack on something delicious, and simply enjoy the music. It's relaxed, welcoming, and one of the easiest ways to experience everyday life in Paraty.

Our favorite? Order a plate of freshly made pastéis to share. They come with all kinds of fillings, but if you ask us, the shrimp pastel is the one you absolutely shouldn't miss.

Getting out on the water is a must

If there's one experience we'd recommend to every visitor, it's spending a day on the water. Paraty Bay is dotted with dozens of islands, quiet beaches, and little coves that are only accessible by boat.

Most boat tours stop several times so you can swim, snorkel, or simply float in the calm water before moving on to the next island. There's no rush, and that's exactly how it should be.

If you'd rather explore at your own pace, renting a kayak is another fantastic option. Early mornings and late afternoons are especially beautiful when the bay is calm and the mountains reflect on the water.

Don't leave without watching the sunset from Forte Defensor

If we could recommend just one place to end the day, it would be Forte Defensor Perpétuo. It's only a short walk from the Historic Center, but surprisingly many visitors never make it up there.

From the old fort you'll have a beautiful view across Paraty's harbor, the surrounding islands, and the mountains beyond. As the light changes in the evening, it's one of the most peaceful places in town.
